St Peter's announces launch of new Community Hub service

Patient Care Stories

St Peter's has announced the launch of a new Community Hub service which aims to reach more people, earlier in their end-of-life journey, and provide much needed support.

The first Community Hub is opening at the Beehive Community Centre in Whitehall, with more locations to be announced across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire in time.

The Hubs will provide vital support to people with life-limiting illnesses, along with their families and carers, including emotional support, practical advice and wellbeing activities like crafting.

The service will first open its doors on September 22 and will be available every Monday from 9am to 12pm to help people adjust to the challenges that can come with a serious illness.

"The hub will provide a safe space for people to connect with others facing similar experiences, helping them to feel cared for and understood," said Chris Benson, Director of Patient Care the Hospice.

"Currently, we only reach about a third of those needing end-of-life care, and we want to do more. The Hubs will give us an opportunity to do just that - by expanding our reach into more neighbourhoods, we can help more people to live as fully as possible.

"We welcome all adults regardless of condition, religion or beliefs, and we want people affected by life-limiting illnesses, and their families, to know they're not alone."

Volunteers are invited to be part of this vital new service - they'll work alongside the hospice team to create welcoming community spaces and support patients and carers.
