Emotional and Psychological Support

Emotional and Psychological Support

Finding out that you or someone you are close to has a life-limiting illness can have a huge impact on your emotional wellbeing. Talking to someone can help.

Our Psychological Therapies team is dedicated to supporting the emotional wellbeing of our patients, those close to them and the bereaved. They work closely alongside our clinical teams and see their care as integral to the support St Peter's offers.

If you'd like their help, you will have an initial appointment where you can experience what it's like to talk about how you feel to someone who isn't a friend or family member. You will have a chance to discuss the kind of support that's right for you and how to take things forward. If you find your initial appointment helpful and want to continue, we will pair you with a member of the team who is best placed to support you and you will be offered up to eight individual sessions of 50 minutes each.

Alongside our listening therapy, you can get involved in a range of other therapies including music, art, mindfulness and body-based practises. Sessions can be held in the hospice rooms designed to help you feel relaxed and comfortable, but support can also be given remotely through video link or over the telephone.

Our team sees people individually or in any kind of family group. They work with all age groups, including young children. If you have a responsibility for children or young people, our team can help you with what to say and how to support them through the period of illness and into bereavement.

Bereavement Support

Our Psychological Therapies team can support you long into your bereavement. It can be very helpful to share experiences with other people in a similar situation, so we offer group therapy as well as individual sessions.

In Memory

Find out more about how to remember a loved one with the Hospice here. We hold an annual remembrance event in December and have a memory tree in the beautiful Hospice garden to which you can add a copper leaf.

Our Music Therapist, Kamila tells us about the extraordinary power of song to support her clients through difficult times. "Just hearing a song can open up something words alone can't."

Important Announcement: Light Up a Life Event on 7 December cancelled

Due to the storm predicted to arrive this weekend and the rare red weather warning issued by The Met Office across Bristol and the South West, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the event.

We know how important this event is for our community and we share your disappointment, but the safety of our patients and supporters is our highest priority.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us via community@stpetershospice.org
