Grand Iftar celebrations

15 Apr 2024

Patient Care Stories

This April, we attended two Grand Iftar events held on St Mark's Road in Easton and Bristol Cathedral. The Grand Iftar is a celebration where anyone can join local Muslims for an evening meal and to break fast at the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Grand Iftar is an event organised by Muslims4Bristol, in partnership with Bristol Cathedral and Bridges for Communities.

We recognise that there are many communities across our region who do not know us and do not access our care. Our aim is to reach those people to let them know about the wide range of services we offer, should they need our care. We exist to support everyone who needs us and can adapt our care to meet a person's religious or cultural needs, and we are working hard to make sure that's known more widely. We also want to listen to communities, to deepen our understanding of what matters to them, which is why it's important for us to attend events like the Grand Iftar.

Muna, our Community Engagement Coordinator says, "My main aim is to spread the word about the Hospice and what it does. For example, some people I meet aren't aware that we provide most of our support in people's own homes. The partnership work I'm doing will also help Hospice staff learn and understand more about each community."

We enjoyed learning and experiencing the joy of Ramadan and reflecting on the themes for this year, which were hope and peace.

Important Announcement: Light Up a Life Event on 7 December cancelled

Due to the storm predicted to arrive this weekend and the rare red weather warning issued by The Met Office across Bristol and the South West, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the event.

We know how important this event is for our community and we share your disappointment, but the safety of our patients and supporters is our highest priority.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us via community@stpetershospice.org
