Hospice care isn't for the few. It's here for everybody: you, me, every single one of us.
But we know we're not reaching everyone we need to and that's something we're trying to change.
Muna, our Community Engagement Co-ordinator, is working to build links and lasting partnerships with underserved communities across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We're learning what people want and listening to their needs - and how we can adapt our services to work for them.
If communities are aware of the support we offer people at the end of their lives, they’re more likely to ask for it. So we're getting to know communities, often inviting them to the Hospice in Brentry, where they can find out more about who we are and how we care. We also go to cultural and religious events such as St Paul's Carnival and the Grand Iftar, where we'll chat to people about what we do.
Is St Peter's Hospice a Christian or faith-based charity?
That's a question that often comes up when we're meeting people. Our answer is no. We support people of all faiths and none. We're named after St Peter's Hospital, which once stood in central Bristol and was destroyed during World War Two.
Our aim is for everyone to know that we're here for them and their families. If you'd like us to connect with your community, please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.
